Color Help

The chip lied. It always does.

A one inch color chip under store lighting tells you almost nothing about how that color will behave on a twelve foot wall facing west at four in the afternoon. Colorado light is bright, cool and high contrast, and it pushes warm colors yellow and cool colors gray.

Our color consultation replaces guessing with testing. We narrow your options, brush out real samples at real size on your own walls, and look at them across the day before you commit.

What We Cover

What happens in a color consultation.

Usually ninety minutes to two hours, in your home, with your light and your furniture.

Read the light

North, south, east and west facing rooms each render color differently. We look at your windows, your bulb temperature and when you actually use each room.

Nail the undertone

Greige that goes purple, white that goes yellow, gray that goes blue. Undertone is where most color mistakes happen, and it is the first thing we check.

Fixed finishes first

Your floors, counters, tile, cabinets and stone are not changing. The palette gets built around them rather than fighting them.

Sheen strategy

Flat and matte hide wall flaws, eggshell and satin clean up, semi gloss and gloss handle trim and wet rooms. Sheen changes how the color reads too.

Whole home flow

Sightlines matter. We make sure colors that can be seen from the same spot are speaking to each other instead of arguing.

A written schedule

You leave with a documented list of colors, sheens and locations, including brand and color codes, so nothing gets lost in translation.

Trends Worth Trusting

Where Front Range homes are going right now.

Trends are useful when they match how you live and dangerous when they do not. Here is what we are seeing hold up.

Warm neutrals

The cool gray era is over. Warm whites, greige and soft clay tones feel better in Colorado light and photograph beautifully in bright rooms.

Deep, confident accents

Navy, forest green and charcoal on an island, a den or a front door. Saturated color on a small surface is low risk and high impact.

Color drenching

Walls, trim and ceiling in one color at different sheens. It makes small rooms feel intentional rather than cramped, and it is stunning in an office or powder room.

A color consultation is included at no charge when you book an interior painting or cabinet refinishing project with us. As a standalone service it is a flat fee for the visit, and that fee is credited back if you go on to book the project.

Most in home consultations run ninety minutes to two hours for a whole house. A single room or a cabinet color decision is usually under an hour.

No, please do not. Save your money and let us bring options based on your light and your finishes. Buying six sample pots before anyone has looked at the room is how people end up with a wall covered in squares and no decision.

Yes. Exterior color is a three part decision covering body, trim and accent, and it has to work with your roof, stone, brick and the neighborhood. We look at all of it and brush out samples on the actual siding.

Then we will pressure test them. We will brush them out at size, look at them at different times of day and tell you honestly if we think a color will disappoint you once it covers a whole wall.

We specify Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore most often because their color lines are deep and their products perform well here, but we can match a color from any brand you like.

Yes. Bring us a pillow, a rug sample, a photo or a leftover can and we can get extremely close with a computer match, then brush out a test to confirm before ordering.
